Today is Pentecost Sunday. It commemorates the day the Hoy Spirit empowered the disciples. Luke recounts this event in Acts 2 writing, “When the day of Pentecost came…All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tounges as the Spirit enabled them” (v. 1 & 4, NIV).
Is his commentary on the book of Acts (2008), N.T. Wright explains this event is often seen as the birth of the Christian church. The infant Christian church’s leaders in Acts was known for their devotion to each other and their service to others (Acts 2:42-47). May the Christian church today be known for the same.
