Self-Care Matters

Self-care is when you do an activity that energizes you physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually. There are two important components of self-care: self-awareness and self-management.

There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to self-care. What is energizing for one person could be draining for another. Because of this, self-awareness is important. If you are struggling with practicing self-care, ask yourself what activities energize you.

I recently told a friend and mentor of a dilemma I have been having: I don’t have the energy to practice self-care and I don’t have energy because I don’t practice self-care. If you can relate, this is why self-management is important. If you are struggling with practicing self-care, schedule an activity that energizes you. Tell the people that you live with what you will be doing and when you will be doing it. This way they can honor that time.
