Confession of a Volunteer Church Leader with Andrew Sakabu

In this episode, Andrew and I talk about volunteer culture in the church. During our conversation, we discuss intentionality, identity, burnout, and boundaries. I also get his thoughts on when former church volunteers refer to their work as “slave labor.”  Whether you are a church volunteer or employee, Andrew has some essential advice on finding your identity in Christ rather than in your ministry.

About Andrew:

Andrew studied business at William Jessup University. He has also served as a volunteer church leader for over 8 years. If you want to grow as a leader in business or ministry, Andrew suggests taking someone you look up to out to coffee.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What are some practical ways to be intentional in building relationships with fellow church members?
  2. How can you identify and prioritize your personal boundaries in volunteer work?
  3. How can church leaders better appreciate and acknowledge the contributions of their volunteer team?
