How to Lead a Book Club

Earlier this month, the non-profit I work for held a “Wellness Expo” at our annual conference. This was an opportunity for staff to host a booth where they could share something they do to practice wellness and self-care

I had a booth where I shared how to lead a book club. At my booth I had some of my recommended books along with some bookmarks I designed. The bookmarks had some simple instructions on how to start a bookclub along with some potential discussion questions. Here are those steps and questions:

Steps to Starting a Book Club

  1. Pick a topic.
  2. Pick a book.
  3. Pick a recurring meeting date/time.
  4. Discuss one chapter during each meeting.*
  5. Finish the book.
  6. Return to step 1.

*Book Club Discussion Questions

  • What did you like best about this chapter? Why?
  • What did you like least about this chapter? Why?
  • Share a favorite quote from this chapter. Why did this quote stand out?
  • How can you apply what we’re reading to your life?
  • What other books on this topic would you like to read?
