If one of your family members or friends were to imitate you, what might they say or do?
My family and friends know that I’m obsessed with the topic of leadership. My wife, Claudia, often makes fun of me for it.
One day, when she was doing laundry, she put on one of my favorite button-up shirts and walked around our house saying, “Look at me! I’m Nick. Leadership, leadership, leadership.”
While her imitating me was funny and has become one of our ongoing jokes, it got me thinking about my own leadership. Was I a leader worth imitating?
Because of this, I began to intentionally read about, think about, and write about the leadership of Jesus. I also began to implement and apply the principles I learned from His life and leadership.
Many other leaders have also sought to imitate the leadership of Jesus in their own lives. The Apostle Paul is one example.
Paul was perhaps the most influential leader in the early church. You may have read about his leadership in the book of Acts and many of the New Testament Epistles.
Despite Paul’s influence, his leadership was not unique on its own. Rather, it was an imitation of the Perfect Leader. In 1 Corinthians 11:1, he writes, “You should imitate me, just as I imitate Christ” (NLT).
As you imitate the leadership of Jesus, you won’t walk around saying, “Look at me! Leadership, leadership, leadership.” Instead, your words and your actions will say, “Look at Him! Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.”
