INSTAGRAM FILTERS

You’ve probably seen these filters on Instagram that say things like… “Which _________ Are You?” Essentially, you click on a rotating icon above your head and it tells you which character you are from a movie or series. An example of this is, “Which Pixar Character Are You?” (I’m Ken from Toy Story 3).

I recently started reading The Motive (2020) by Patrick Lencioni. In this book explains that there are two different kinds of leaders. The first kind sees leadership as a reward for all of their hard work. The second kind sees leadership as a responsibility to work hard for those in their organization. Essentially, the first kind of leader is self-centered while the second kind of leader is a servant.

When we look at the leadership of Jesus. we see that he was the second kind of leader. In Matthew 20:25-26, 28 he states, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them (i.e. “self-serving”). Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant… just as (I) did not come to be served, but to serve” (New International Version).

So which kind of leader are you? Self-centered or a servant?
