“Think like a leader.” — Luthen Rael
Andor is one of my favorite Star Wars series, and that’s one of my favorite quotes from it.
If you watched season two, you’ll remember that Cassian Andor did one-off missions for Luthen Rael, an early leader in the Rebellion. While discussing whether to take on a certain mission, the two men disagree about how to proceed. Cassian says he’s thinking like a soldier. Luthen answers, “Think like a leader.”
He’s challenging Cassian to see the big picture, to play the long game. He’s pushing him to move beyond his role as a soldier and grow into a leader of the Rebellion.
In your life and leadership, there will be seasons when you’re like Cassian and seasons when you’re like Luthen. You’ll be both a mentee and a mentor.
- If you’re in a mentee season, find a mentor who will involve you in purposeful work and push you to grow.
- If you’re in a mentor season, find a mentee you can involve in your purposeful work and challenge to grow.
